Arts Council England to distribute first wave of Arts Everywhere Fund cash to 130 cultural sites, including major refurbishment support for Liverpool’s Everyman and Playhouse theatres.
Arts and cultural venues in England, including theaters, museums, and libraries, are set to benefit from a major government funding initiative. The Arts Council England, on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, is distributing a £127.8 million investment designed to enhance facilities, preserve heritage, and foster community engagement. The primary objective of this funding is to improve accessibility and provide welcoming, affordable spaces for local communities, while simultaneously addressing the essential infrastructure needs of these vital cultural institutions.
This financial support marks the first time that projects of this nature will benefit from such a comprehensive fund. It seeks to ensure that these venues remain sustainable and functional for both present and future generations. The investment is structured through three distinct funds. A significant portion, totaling £96 million, has been allocated through the Creative Foundations Fund. This specific fund will support 74 arts and cultural venues, including theaters, performing arts centers, galleries, and grassroots music venues, by addressing their specific infrastructure requirements.
Locally, the Liverpool and Merseyside Theatres Trust, which operates both the Everyman and Playhouse theaters, has been awarded £1 million. This funding is designated for updating facilities and refurbishing key amenities, including bathrooms, dressing rooms, and office spaces. Additionally, the Port Sunlight Village Trust will receive £500,000 from the Creative Foundations Fund to support its ongoing efforts in the region.
