George Sampson will play Prince George in the Oak Theatre’s Christmas pantomime, joining established panto performers for a festive production aimed at audiences of all ages.
The Oak Theatre, located on the grounds of Scarisbrick Hall, is set to host a production of 'Sleeping Beauty' throughout the upcoming festive season. The 390-seat, state-of-the-art venue will offer performances ranging from school shows to programs tailored for families and audiences of all ages, including a special adult-oriented performance featuring mature humor and wit.
'Sleeping Beauty' follows the classic tale of Princess Aurora and a wicked curse that can only be broken by a true love's kiss, leaving it up to the prince to save the day. The cast includes performer George Sampson as the Prince, alongside David Foster, who plays the role of the pantomime dame, Dame Dolly. Foster explains his long-standing connection to the genre, noting that he was just three years old when he saw his first pantomime, and his great uncle played the dame in the production. "The thing that stood out, the bug that bit me, so to speak, was looking around the room and seeing how much fun everybody in the audience was having," Foster says.
Alongside Foster, the production features actors Mary Shanker, who plays Fairy Starlight, Suzanne Fulton as Princess Aurora, and Jessica Poole in the role of Carabosse. Shanker describes her character as "super excited to be in Pantoland" and full of life, adding, "It's just all good vibes." Meanwhile, Poole, as Carabosse, brings a touch of villainy to the stage. Reflecting on the competitive spirit of the performance, Poole says, "I am hoping to win, of course!"
According to the production team, audiences can look forward to a traditional experience filled with elaborate sets and costumes, special effects, and a sing-along soundtrack. The performances will run through December and conclude on New Year's Eve, culminating with a special performance.
