Liverpool Football Club has taken decisive action against unauthorized ticket sales, issuing 432 lifetime bans and seizing over £1.2 million in assets. The measures come as part of an extensive effort to combat the illegal resale of match tickets, a campaign conducted in collaboration with the Merseyside Police. This investigation is the first of its kind between a Premier League club and local law enforcement, involving an analysis of nearly 700,000 ticket registrations from the previous season to identify organized criminal activity.
The joint operation has already yielded two convictions under the Proceeds of Crime Act, with additional cases pending in court. According to the club, the investigation remains active and is targeting various fraudulent practices. Furthermore, the club has taken steps to block or cancel 67,663 suspected fake accounts identified during the campaign, with an additional 121,000 accounts currently under investigation. Beyond the lifetime bans, 115 indefinite suspensions have been issued to individuals involved in illicit activities, including the unauthorized resale of season tickets, memberships, and hospitality packages.
Supporters now face an average waiting period of three years before they can apply for reinstatement if they receive an indefinite suspension. Club officials and the Merseyside Police are strongly advising supporters to avoid purchasing tickets through unauthorized sources, emphasizing the importance of securing tickets only through official channels.
