Community groups, schools and charities have created garden displays for the Palm House’s anniversary celebrations. The exhibition highlights wellbeing, environmental action and local community projects.
The historic Sefton Park Palm House is marking a major milestone this June with a vibrant exhibition of community-designed show gardens. The display, which transforms the venue's East Lawn, features 10 unique plots created by organizations across the Liverpool City Region to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Palm House's reopening following extensive renovations. Each 2-by-3-meter garden was brought to life through the collaborative efforts of children, volunteers, service users, and local residents. These plots are themed around essential topics including education, health and wellbeing, environmental action, and community growth.
According to organizers, the gardens serve as both a reflection of the participating groups' work and a broader statement on themes of hope, collaboration, remembrance, recovery, and resilience. Kate Martinez, head of visitors and communities at Sefton Park Palm House, emphasized the significance of the project, noting that it reflects the organization's commitment to the synergy between people, plants, and place. She further highlighted that the impact of nature on health and wellbeing remains central to the ongoing mission of the Palm House.
The exhibition will be open to the public from June 10 to June 21. It is part of a larger, month-long program of anniversary events dedicated to celebrating both the restoration of the iconic venue and its enduring role as a cornerstone of Sefton Park.
