Major improvement works are due to start next month on a key Liverpool route linking Wavertree High Street and Picton Road. The scheme forms part of wider investment to improve journey reliability, pedestrian safety and traffic flow across the city region, with disruption expected during construction.
Residents, drivers, and cyclists in Liverpool should prepare for several months of disruption as significant improvement works are scheduled to begin on Wavertree High Street and Picton Road. Starting Monday, July 6th, the project is part of a broader investment strategy funded by the Liverpool City Region’s Key Route Network (KRN) Leveling Up program. The initiative aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of key roads throughout the city. The upcoming improvements will cover a stretch of roadway from the Spofforth Road junction to Picton Clock and are expected to be completed over approximately 26 weeks.
The planned upgrades include comprehensive resurfacing of the road, the installation of improved traffic signal systems designed to optimize traffic flow, and the introduction of new push-button crossings at key junctions. Local council leaders have stated that while some road closures and temporary traffic signals will be necessary to facilitate initial survey work, the disruption will be carefully managed to maintain access for the surrounding community and local businesses. To support clear communication throughout the project, the council plans to share regular updates via its social media channels, while diversion information will also be available through Mersey Travel.
Furthermore, the council has organized information events scheduled for mid and late June. These meetings will provide residents with an opportunity to engage directly with the project team and address any questions or concerns prior to the commencement of construction.
