A new month-long celebration of live music will take place across Liverpool, before expanding into a summer programme of major concerts and community events.
Liverpool is launching its first-ever Music Month throughout May, a vibrant program designed to highlight the city's status as a UNESCO City of Music. Delivered by Culture Liverpool and Sound City, the event aims to celebrate the artists, venues, and audiences that have collectively shaped the city's musical identity. The initiative, which also aligns with New York Music Month, features a wide variety of activities including live performances, cultural events, and community-focused projects spread across the city region. Organizers intend for the program to reinforce Liverpool's reputation as a world-leading music destination while maximizing the regional benefits of music tourism.
The celebration includes an eclectic mix of pop-up performances and street events, such as sets by Katumba and Sky Valley Mistress near the Jacaranda on Slater Street, along with additional performances throughout the city. A key feature of the month is the allocation of dedicated commissioning funds from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. This funding supports local venues, artists, and promoters in delivering independent projects that foster new collaborations and grassroots creativity. As the event progresses, the focus will broaden to include the Liverpool Summer of Music, which extends through August.
This summer program will feature a series of festivals, concerts, and events across the region’s boroughs. Already, several major performances have been announced, including shows by Foo Fighters and My Chemical Romance at Anfield, Lewis Capaldi at Sefton Park, and Nile Rodgers and Chic at Bootle’s Locking Key. By combining headline events with local grassroots support, the organizers aim to ensure the ongoing vitality of Liverpool's music scene.
