Liverpool John Lennon Airport is entering one of its busiest times of the year, as families from the North West and North Wales set off on summer holidays. The airport expects nearly 930,000 passengers to travel through its terminal by the end of August, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period last year.
According to Robin Tudor, a representative for the airport, this increase is driven by a greater variety of holiday destinations and more frequent flight options, giving travelers more flexibility in their travel plans. In anticipation of the high volume of passengers, the airport has invested significantly over the past few years in new facilities, including updated bars, dining areas, and a new lounge that opened last October. These improvements have contributed to a 2% increase in facility usage during the first half of the year, with 2.7 million passengers passing through.
Changes in security protocols have also streamlined the passenger experience. Travelers no longer need to remove laptops or liquids from their carry-on bags. Tudor emphasized that this change simplifies the security process, though standard size and quantity limits for liquids remain in place. Airport management is urging travelers to plan ahead, emphasizing that this preparation should include the journey to the airport as much as the security process itself. Due to ongoing road construction in the area, travelers are advised to allow extra time to reach the terminal.
Once at the airport, passengers are advised to arrive two to three hours before their scheduled flight. Furthermore, in light of safety concerns regarding power banks, the airport is conducting a campaign to raise awareness about lithium batteries. Travelers are advised to keep power banks in their hand luggage rather than checking them into their suitcases, as there have been recent issues with these devices overheating. Despite broader challenges facing the aviation industry, passenger numbers at Liverpool John Lennon Airport remain strong.
