A consortium involving Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns a thirty eight per cent share in Liverpool Football Club, more than the roughly thirty per cent initially suggested. The investment values Liverpool at between five and six billion US dollars, while an option for Amit Bhatia’s company to pursue control does not amount to a formal commitment.

A consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has secured a significant stake in Liverpool Football Club. While initial reports indicated an investment of around 30 percent, it has emerged that the group now holds a 38 percent share in the club. Current understandings place the actual figure closer to 40 percent.

The arrangement includes an option for 1892 Holdings, led by British-Indian billionaire businessman Amit Bhatia, to purchase a controlling interest in the club within the next 12 months. This is not a formal commitment but provides a framework for future possibilities. The current deal is valued between 5 and 6 billion U.S. dollars.

Although the transaction offers flexibility for how the relationship between the partners may evolve, it is not an indication of any future intentions from the parties involved, nor is it a predetermined path toward a complete acquisition. Liverpool's majority owners, Fenway Sports Group, were not actively seeking investment due to financial need, but rather chose to welcome high-profile partners such as Bhatia, Bezos, and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Saverin’s wife, Elaine, will also have a seat on the club's board, while Bhatia has served as a primary partner throughout negotiations and is set to become the new vice-chairman.

The substantial capital injection will not influence Liverpool's transfer strategy for the remainder of the transfer window, nor will it alter the budget for the team's ongoing operations. Decisions regarding both the sporting and financial aspects of the club will continue to be managed by Liverpool's existing sporting operation.
