Police are still trying to identify a woman whose body was found in the park. Detectives are appealing for anyone with information or potentially useful footage to come forward.
More than two weeks after the body of a woman was found in Stanley Park, Liverpool, authorities are continuing their investigation into her death. Merseyside Police are working to determine the identity of the woman and locate those responsible for her murder.
The investigation began on Friday, August 28, when a member of the public notified the police after discovering a black bin bag discarded in the park's walled garden. Following the discovery, officers arrived at the scene and confirmed it contained the remains of a woman.
Although forensic testing has allowed investigators to establish a DNA profile for the victim, they have been unable to find a match in the national database. Further efforts to identify the woman through dental records have also proven unsuccessful. Police describe the victim as a white woman, approximately 70 years of age, and around 5 feet 2 inches tall, with a slight build and strawberry blonde hair. At the time she was found, she was wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.
In an effort to gather evidence, the investigation has involved house-to-house inquiries and the collection of CCTV footage. Authorities have spoken with the occupants of 625 nearby properties and have recovered CCTV footage from 30 separate cameras. The police have also received over 160 reports from the public, which have assisted in the ongoing inquiry.
Authorities have already excluded 73 individuals from their investigation after concerns were raised that they might match the description of the woman. As the investigation continues, the police are now asking anyone who may have flown a drone over Stanley Park within the last few months to review their footage for any information that might be significant.
