Around 300 officers have taken part in large-scale policing to disrupt organised crime and safeguard the community.
Merseyside Police have launched "Operation Vanguard," a large-scale initiative bringing together approximately 300 officers and staff. The operation aims to proactively target criminal activity that causes significant harm within the community, including serious organized crime, domestic abuse, modern slavery, and county lines offenses. By leveraging a coordinated approach, authorities intend to disrupt these criminal networks and bolster community safety.
To achieve these goals, officers are utilizing a wide range of tactics. These include land and underwater searches, roadside checks, and patrols carried out by local police. The operation also features dedicated teams focused on firearms, dogs, and matrix licensing, alongside efforts to safeguard vulnerable residents and conduct reassurance visits. Fourteen warrants were executed in the early hours of Wednesday in Anfield, representing a significant portion of the immediate enforcement action.
This initiative is bolstered by a partnership involving Liverpool City Council, the Northwest Regional Organized Crime Unit, and various community engagement efforts. According to Chief Constable Rob Carden, the operation demonstrates a firm "contempt for criminality" while simultaneously focusing on supporting victims and ensuring law-abiding residents feel secure. Carden emphasized that the effort is part of a sustained, multi-faceted strategy to improve the quality of life across Merseyside, including ongoing work to combat crime through stop searches, arrests, and the seizure of weapons, drugs, and cash.
Operation Vanguard follows previous initiatives in Everton, Vauxhall, and North Liverpool, which demonstrated measurable success in reducing violent and property crime, as well as increasing arrests for drug and weapon offenses. Merseyside Police continue to encourage the public to provide information and report criminal activity, even anonymously, to support these ongoing efforts to maintain public order and community safety.
